A few years ago while touring a data center I came across a great map of the internet's undersea world. And today, while purusing www.Digg.com, I just happened to come across another map that showed the same thing. This map was just updated to show the recent outage as well. It was very interesting to learn that the majority of the global networks are the result of old under-sea land lines instead of newer satellite technology. Thomas Friedman also talks about this phenomenon in his book "The World is Flat", in the early 90's there was alot of money to be made by laying and controlling the ocean fiber lines, however the majority of those companies went bankrupt and got bought out.
