The question has been what screen resolution should you design for? When is it time to upgrade to a larger width? Since as far back as 2001 the design community has questioned when the move should be made as the trend in monitor resolution has continued to increase. Seven years ago several studies showed that monitors with 800x600 pixels comprised over 50 percent. Based on statistics of websites in The Zeppo Network and confirmed by other recent industry studies visitors using 800x600 monitor resolution barely average 10 percent; year to date on EmpoweredInternet.com and other sites in the technology sector (See Figure B) this demographic comprises only 2 percent! Further statistics from within The Zeppo Network show that non-profit websites have the highest amount of visitors still using 800x600 monitor resolution at 12 percent. Based on reading the Web Analytics of your website you will be able to make an informed decision on what appropriate minimum size you should design your site to. *Figures below group Monitor Screen Resolution Widths into the ranges shown. With greater horizontal space one can breathe easier and allow more space in between elements of the page. 4/18/2008 12:07:35 AM Very good info! This re-confirms our decision to model our website with higher resolutions in mind. |
